Garrison

Meet Garrison!!

A perfect size lab who is not too small and not too big weighing in at 53 pounds. What Garrison lacks in size, he makes up for in sweetness. This is one very affectionate dog (between 1 – 2 years old) and you can tell everyday just how happy he is that he has been rescued.

He is adapting to a more comfortable way of life than he experienced in the past. He accepts any affection that he can get (especially belly rubs), but his foster parents believe he is a victim of past abuse and he is slowly learning to trust people once again. He is getting better with his trust, but he will require some patience as he continues to adjust to a loving atmosphere. Luckily Garrison's trust issues just make him very timid at times and not aggressive.

Garrison is crate trained and does very well in his crate. In fact, he likes his crate so much that he tends to hide additional toys in there throughout the afternoon and evening. He also seems to be very house-trained and has yet to have an accident in the house. He walks well on a leash and is currently learning some basic commands including “sit” and “stay.” He loves his toys, and like any two year old child, he is happy to pull out every toy from the basket so that they are all easily accessible at any point in time. Now if we could only teach him how to put his toys up when done, but he does seem to be able to entertain himself!

Garrison does great with other dogs, thus he would be good in a multi-dog home or as a solo pet. However, he might not be a good fit for a home with a cat as like many dogs, Garrison thinks cats were put on Earth purely for the enjoyment of chasing around the house, yard, neighborhood, etc. He loves the “creature comforts” like a good blanket to lay on, and he has even cuddled up on the bathroom mat. He also enjoys lying in the cold dirt as a respite from the hot summer heat that we experience in our Texas summers.
